Bio

Dr. Sartor is a complex care nurse practitioner who joined Atrium Health Levine Children's Hospital in 2022 as the Program Director of the Ward Winslett Center for Complex and Rare Disease.  Nicole came to LCH from UNC Children’s Hospital where she co-led the pediatric palliative care team for nearly 10 years. Nicole has dedicated 25 years to advancing pediatric hospice and palliative nursing. She is dedicated to developing clinical expertise and team focused nursing leadership, contributing to the role of pediatric palliative care advanced practice nurse, training and mentoring interprofessional team members caring for children, adolescents, and young adults, who are seriously ill, developing pediatric hospice and palliative care programs in the community and within academic medical centers, developing palliative care curriculum, and working on policy and advocacy projects that advance the care of people living with serious illness. Nicole completed a DNP in Lifespan Palliative Care degree at the Medical University of South Carolina in 2022. Her scholarly interest is in equipping interprofessional colleagues with primary palliative care knowledge and End-of-Life care competency training. She is a presenter, instructor, author, advocate, and recipient of the 2018 Nursing Recognition Award for Excellence in Pediatric Palliative Care Nursing from the UNC School of Medicine, 2019 Hospice and Palliative Nurse Association Leadership Scholar, 2021 Duke Johnson & Johnson Nurse Leadership Fellow, and 2023 Hospice and Palliative Nurse Association Fellow in Palliative Care Nursing inductee. Additionally, Nicole loves spending time with her family, traveling, creating things, and volunteering in ministry.
